About two decades ago an Indigenous Elder told me that the US would divide up into its' states. So depending on where you lived would depend on whether you had a community (community = come together in unity) that worked together for the greater good of all or a community that was broken and residents there would have only themself to rely on or a tyrannical type governing body.

I'm talking about decentralized government (and decentralized medicine which could be another topic) within each individual US state to differing degrees, and everything that that would entail. Todays communities based on exclusivity will eventually fail. Therefore, I would be curious as to when and how the states are to become self-governing, Will there be one event that rattles all states, like covid did, or will there be an onslaught of many events? What will the condition of the US or its states be in one year or in five years?

There is no such thing as decentralized government, because a government is centralization by definition. The scale doesn't matter. Even of your community is just a village with a few hundred people, the government of the village would be the centraliziation of power.

It all boils down to how the community treats property. The communist or socialist approach wants to get rid of individual property, thus making government the only institution that can own stuff – which would be the ultimate power one can have over others. So, individual property must be the foundation if you want to have a free and decentralized system.

They already are self-governing. A federation like the US is just a contract. A state can leave the federation whenever it wants. So the question would be: What needs to happen to make a state wanting to leave the federation?
