Generally: no. But WP has good summaries for Non-political topics and often good sources for further reading. It is a quick entry into a topic. That's sometimes helpful for certain pieces of information. Saves time. You can also see that I added an original source as well. It is a good way to find the right specialist term(s) you need to get into books and papers. Otherwise it takes much longer to come to the right search-expressions... If you start on a new topic with a paper, it will be very hard, because it is full of unknown expressions, acronyms, etc. Reading a textbook takes time and the topics are distributed over the chapters and embedded in details which hinder the overview and one can get lost. Wikipedia is very good to get this overview and to select a subtopic including the correct terms for the next steps. This way one can come very quickly to the latest state of research on nearly any topic in the papers.
Saves hundreds of hours reading irrelevant stuff and searching. ctrl+C at wikipedia ctrl+P at the fulltext search database, get what seems right, open as pdf, ctrl+f, ctrl+p, ENTER and voila you are there. Seconds instead of hours in a library...

I browse Wikipedia all the time for topics. If I find a topic worthwhile going into deeper then I'd follow links and try to find the true information. Otherwise, you're right, as an initial source of information Wikipedia is good for light reading and general direction of the flow of content.
